Reasons that you (or your clients) may not be getting optimal results with our Treatment range

You may be wondering why some clients get amazing results, and others get less than optimal results from our treatment range. There are a few different reasons why this may be happening, so we’re going to explore that topic here.

Firstly, the results are entirely dependent on the hair being treated. For more information on how the original hair condition and type affects the outcomes of the treatment, you can find our Blog Post about that here. Unfortunately, in rare cases, some hair can be resistant to the treatment. This can be for reasons linked to hormones, medications, or just the natural hair type of the client. With these hair types, a semi-permanent solution like Cocochoco may not work for them at all, and they may need to look further into stronger treatment options outside of the Cocochoco brand. This is very rare, but we have experienced it.

Secondly, our range of treatments are semi-permanent, heat-activated treatments. This means that the results last an average of 3-6 months (depending on the formula you have chosen), and clients will only see best results when fully blowdrying the hair after a wash. If a client is unhappy with the results they have received, we advise that you bring them back to your salon, wash the hair with a Cocochoco shampoo, use a Cocochoco hair mask, and then blast dry the hair. Do not perform a full salon blowdry – just blast dry the hair, so that you can see the results the client is able to achieve at home when they follow the correct maintenance process.

Finally, there are a few common mistakes both stylists and clients make during and after the treatment. For stylists, it is important that you are following the application process that we teach in our courses strictly. That is the only method to ensure you are performing every step correctly and giving your clients the best results you are able to achieve. For clients, the hair needs to be maintained strictly, exactly as we advise here in our Blog Post read the related article.

To give an overview of the kinds of mistakes that can happen during both application and maintenance, we’ve compiled the below list of the things we have seen most commonly.

Most common mistakes that clients make when maintaining the hair include:

1. Allowing too much moisture into the hair during the initial maintenance period (72 hours for Keratin, or 24 hours for Hair Botox) after application, for example hair got damp or wet, or was exposed to mist, steam, or sweat

2. The client did not blowdry and straighten the hair immediately after it got damp or wet during this initial maintenance period

3. The client used the wrong after care products (ie not Cocochoco brand aftercare)

4. The client did not wait full 72 hours after the treatment before washing the hair

5. Client clipped or tied up the hair before the first wash, which can allow kinks, bends, or marks to reside in the hair

6. The client is not blowdrying their hair fully after washing – our treatments are heat-activated, so using a blowdryer is the only way to see the full results of the treatment.

Common mistakes that stylists can make during the application process include:

1. Not enough product has been applied to the hair, or the choice of formula was not correct for the hair type

2. The temperature of the straightener was too low for the hair type, meaning the product did not totally melt properly, so the lamination is weak

3. The straightener was not passed over the hair enough times

4. The sections of the hair that were straightened were too thick, meaning the heat did not penetrate all the way through the section of hair

5. The product was not fully blowdried into the hair before the straightening process began

6. The straightener was passed over the hair too quickly

7. The straightener was not appropriate for the treatments. We recommend using straighteners that have titanium plates, have fast heat recovery, and the temperature can be manually set. In our own salon we use the Corioliss brand which have proven to be an ideal model and give us consistently great results. In our UK store www.cocochocoprofessional.co.uk we stock a limited range of models. In Ireland, you can visit www.corioliss.ie to shop the full range.
