The Cocochoco treatment range currently contains three variations – Keratin Treatment, Hair Botox Treatment and Onyx Treatment. All of our treatments are designed for professional use only, and should only be used by hairstylists who have trained in our treatment range. All of our treatments are also heat-activated, meaning that the client needs to blowdry the hair after every wash to see the best results. Our treatments are also semi-permanent (i.e. not a permanent, chemical treatment), so results will depend on factors like the application process followed, the tools you use to apply (a professional straightener with adjustable temperature is key!), the maintenance the client puts into it, as well as the original hair condition and strength of the curl/wave/shape of the hair.
The treatments are each designed to give a different result, so let’s explore them in more depth here.
Keratin is our most popular and most well known treatment. Keratin is often referred to as a 12-week blowdry, Brazilian Blowdry, Brazilian Straightening treatment, or Keratin Blowdry – but all of these refer to the Keratin treatment. At Cocochoco, we have three types of Keratin – Original, Gold and Pure. These formulas are designed for different hair types, but all achieve results in the same way – the treatment is sealed using a straightener on a high heat to create a strong lamination of the hair (much like you would laminate a piece of paper!). This lamination seals the cuticles of the hair down which instantly reduces frizz, and also has the ability to give straightening results, with many of our clients seeing results that last an average of 12-16 weeks (3-4 months) as long as they are maintaining the hair as prescribed.
Hair Botox is our nourishing, restorative Smoothing treatment. Hair Botox follows a similar application process to Keratin; it also creates a lamination on the outer layer of the hair. The lamination in this case is not always strong enough to give straightening effects, but will fill up any gaps in the hair and seal the cuticles of the hair down, resulting in restored, healthy, smooth and shiny hair. Hair Botox can also be sealed on a lower temperature, meaning that it is suitable for a wider range of clients. We find that clients who struggle with frizz or hair condition achieve the most benefit from this treatment. But, it is also suitable for clients with naturally fairly straight hair that could do with a nourishing, restorative treatment, or for clients who want smooth and shiny hair without excessive straightening results. We have also found it to be an excellent treatment for clients after having bleach treatments in the hair – bleach lifts the hair cuticle and can dry/dehydrate the hair. Hair Botox will seal the cuticles back down and restore and nourish the hair, to give a beautiful shine and condition to newly bleached hair.
Due to the high heat and lamination, some straightening effects are possible, but the treatment is specifically designed to Smooth, NOT Straighten.
Onyx is the newest treatment to the Cocochoco range. It is a new-generation treatment based on a Glyoxylic Complex. It penetrates deeper into the hair to modify the structure to achieve straightening effects, smoothness, and overall manageability. It is overall a more versatile treatment, and depending on the application process followed, the results can range from the smoothness and manageability that Hair Botox provides, to the straightening effects of Keratin. But, with this new-generation technology, results last an average of 6 months! Plus, there is no downtime for the client – the hair is washed at the end of the service, they can tie up the hair immediately, and colour the hair after 5 days (or ideally, after at least three washes). Onyx provides the stylist with the ability to transform all hair types, and give the results that clients desire. For best results, this treatment should be used on strong, healthy hair types. For return clients, we advise to strongly treat the root area (as you would have done on the whole head for their first appointment), but then simply refresh the treatment on the lengths. The bonds of the hair are modified (not broken!) with Onyx, so it is easier to re-modify / refresh the modifications, than it is to do it from scratch.
